After leaving datapine, Andrew started working for a leading crowd sourced software testing outfit, Applause. Applause is a unique proposition tackling a real-world problem and is set to go public within the next two years.
The company has around 400 staff, mostly in the US. Andrew works at the European HQ in Berlin. He joined as a Sales Exec and four months later was offered a promotion, to lead a team of 7 taking Applause into the UK & Ireland markets. The role comprises of pitches, presentations, sales forecasting, training, compensation management, executing existing initiatives and dreaming up new ones.
His MSc in Enterprise at the Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies comes to use often in this position.
From a sales perspective, I speak with a lot of leaders from startups and enterprise companies. Credibility is everything, and being able to speak the same language and portray yourself as “from the same world” as the prospect positions me at their eye-level. In addition, knowledge of entrepreneurship and business growth enables me to understand the goals of the prospect, and position Applause in a more strategic manner. This leads to more comprehensive partnerships and deals.
Marketing knowledge from his degree has also proven useful during this market-penetration stage for Applause.
Awareness of such options – low pricing, trial share, product differentiation/positioning, segmenting, building mind share etc. – has given me a solid platform upon which to translate theory into real-world practice.
Andrew is a member of CoFoundersLab and other startup MeetUps in Berlin hoping to get involved with more new and exciting projects.
Outside of Applause, the Masters has opened doors as well.’
