Leeds University Medics 'With Enterprise' Dragons' Den

Date

Here’s the photo of the winning “Dragons’ Den” team of medical school students. Their new venture idea was “MediConnect” a WhatsApp-style messaging app for hospital doctors and nurses to replace the antiquated bleepers with a more modern, information-rich device. This was a two-week intensive course covering enterprise, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship in healthcare and included a number of guest speakers from the NHS as well as healthcare entrepreneurs. The students were divided into three teams for the Dragons’ Den challenge, mentored by CEES Ambassadors Lou Henry, Jonathan Straight and Pete Mills respectively.  The finale Dragons’ Den was great fun and the teams were giving a “grilling” (pardon the pun) by the Dragons:

· Fiona Needham (programme director MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice, Leeds Beckett University and experienced nurse practitioner)

· Elaine Taylor-Whilde (CEO of Nine Heath healthcare analytics company and LUBS Leader in Residence)

· Nathan Pettitt (Sales & Marketing Director for Healthcare 21 and LUBS Leader in Residence)

· John Walsh (Organisational Design lead for Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust)

Dr Liz Mear (Chief Executive, NHS Innovation Agency and LUBS Leader in Residence) made a video especially for us on innovation in the NHS which was shown at the start of the course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeeWbFM1lcw

So we had three CEES Ambassadors and three Leaders in Residence contributing!
